FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Slide background

What is IPL?

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. A series of short broad spectrum “flashes” are used to target melanin in the case of treating hair removal and pigmentation, hemoglobin in the case of vascular lesions, and the fibroblasts within the epidermis in the case of photo rejuvenation. The polychromatic light has been filtered of all ultraviolet rays including UVA, UVB and UVC, so there are no harmful effects. This technology has been proven to be one of the safest and most effective forms of technology to remove unwanted hair and treat various skin conditions.

What treatments can IPL offer?

The Next Generation Anthelia® pulsed light offers the treatment of acne, vascular lesions, pigmentary lesions, anti-aging photo rejuvenation, as well as hair removal for all patients (men and women). Offering the benefits of unique and exclusive patented technology, the Anthelia® is able to ensure not only the lasting photoepilation of black and brown hair, but also of white and blonde hair.

What equipment do you use?

It is crucial to do your research when shopping around for a clinic to receive these types of treatments. Many machines currently on the market are not considered medical grade and will produce undesirable results. Euro-Lux Laser Studio only uses the safest and most effective, medical grade technology available today, provided by Eurofeedback’s Next Generation Anthelia®. Eurofeedback has been an industry leader in the production of pulsed light equipment and has already registered 17 exclusive patents in this field.

How many treatments can I expect?

Hair Removal:

4-8 sessions can be expected, however most people are done in 5 to 6 treatments

Photo Rejuvenation:

5 to 6 sessions can be expected, 2 to 3 weeks apart, with maintenance treatments every 3 to 6 months thereafter.

Spider Vein Removal:

2 to 6 sessions can be expected, 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Sunspot Removal:

3 to 4 sessions can be expected, 8 to 12 weeks apart

Does it hurt?

An unpleasant sensation may be felt that is usually described as a feeling similar to an elastic band snap. Intensity varies based on the area being treated and differs from person to person. Thanks to the Anthelia®’s patented built in cooling system treatments are now more comfortable than ever.

Do you offer FREE consultations?

Yes, absolutely! A consultation/test patch is mandatory and must be completed a minimum of 48hrs before your first treatment. Even if you have previously received laser treatments before, a test patch on the Anthelia® must be completed as all machines strengths are different.

How do I prepare for my treatment?

Avoid sun exposure (including UV lamps) for 3 weeks before and after treatment.

The removal of hair by wax or tweezers along with lightening of the hair should be stopped 3 weeks before treatment.

The following products can cause hyper or hypo pigmentation (discoloration) in the skin and should be avoided: retinol, glycolic acid, Accutane and alpha hydroxyl acid.

For best results‚ shave or trim the hair 24 to 48 hours before treatment.

All medications must be discussed with you laser technician prior to treatment, including any that are taken randomly (i.e allergy medications). Medications can cause photosensitivity and therefore may cause complications and must be discussed before treatment.

What can I expect during my treatment?

An unpleasant sensation may be felt during treatment. A mild tingling sensation that feels similar to an elastic band stroke may be felt and intensity varies from person to person.

You will be provided with protective glasses during treatment.

Skin will be cleaned and a cool gel will be applied to the skin.

What do I need to do after my treatment?

The treated area may be red and a warm sensation may be felt. You may feel as thought the area has a mild sunburn. This will subside over time. You may apply a cold compress or an appeasing cream such as Noxema.

Sun protection is imperative after treatment.

Within 5 to 15 days after treatment you will notice the ejection of hair.

Shopping around? What you NEED to know:
First and foremost, ASK QUESTIONS!

Is the equipment medical grade or beauty grade?

(Results vary drastically in treatment quality and number of sessions between the two. Medical grade technology is superior to beauty grade. Ask for the name of the equipment they use and do your research. Any reputable clinic will be happy to give you this information.)

Is the technician CERTIFIED and INSURED?

(Unfortunately, many people practice without proper training and knowledge of the esthetic industry. Make sure your technician holds a certificate from a reputable institution and research with whom they have trained with. Make sure they also have insurance.)

Do they offer a FREE consultation and test patch?

(It is extremely important to have a test patch performed, whether you have previously had laser hair removal or not. All machines are different. Some are stronger than others. Try the machine before you commit. Have a test patch completed and wait a couple weeks. If a machine is not strong enough to make your hair fall out, you will not see desirable results.)
